Visitors
Paracas, a Peruvian Pre-Columbian culture, is famous for its textiles and ornaments. Their textiles, which served to explore complex themes such as spirituality and the after-life, are characterized by their geometric patterns and the inclusion of mythical and anthropomorphic figures. Many where specially made as a part of the burial process and thus, each textile is slightly different given the person it was developed for.
Visitors is an effort to rework some of the principles seen in the Paracas textiles and an attempt to integrate them into our current times and culture through their presentation as patches. These patches are intended to be used as a tool to alter, or appropriate a space - could be garments such as tote bags, shoes, a jackets or t-shirts, as well as keychains, cup-holders or used as bookmarks.
The idea of giving the individual freedom and responsibility to choose where to place the Visitors is to push the individual to visually create a new narrative in an existent space or activity. While doing this, the Visitors, and the space chosen, will acquire a different and unique significance, in a way not unlike the experience that the Paracas people had when creating a new textile.
